I love finding new board games to play with my family. As my kids get older I need to find more modern, up-to-date games my teens and younger son will like.
I actually had the opportunity to review a new card game, Bejeweled Frenzy by PopCap and Hasbro Gaming they sent to me in exchange for my honest opinion. Bejeweled? Like the online game? Yes! That was the same question I asked. I had no idea they had a card game like this. Next thing you know they’ll have a the Farm board game! Hahaha.
My children are pretty familiar with the game Bejeweled online, and were pretty psyched when I told them I had a card game. So, I sat down and played it with them one night after dinner. Just me and my two oldest children.
My daughter read the instructions, they weren’t as specific and I didn’t completely understand them. Neither did they. So we re-read them and took it one step at a time. We finally got through one round, very slowly, but many questions came up about the game that were not explained in the instructions.
Like, what if you get a card that doesn’t match any gem in your chain? Or what if you get a card that matches a gem that is already part of a chain? Can you make a chain out of a chain? As these questions popped up, we just try to make up our own rules for them and ended up playing the game and actually dreading it a little bit. It wasn’t as fun as I thought it was going to be. My son sort of liked it but my daughter agreed with me and didn’t like it so much.
My opinion of this card game shouldn’t stop you from trying it. Maybe you have a completely different perspective about it. Honestly the whole idea of the card game is creative, but it just wasn’t the type of game for me.
