When Should You Replace Your Tires?

Whether you are living on a tight budget or not it’s important to change your tires when needed. Because the last thing you wanna do is put off the changing out worn tires. Badly worn tires can prevent a safe drive each time you get in the car. New tires are an expense we can’t avoid or ignore. However knowing when it’s time to get new tires is not something all drivers know.

Our tire traction gives us the ability to control our vehicles. For an everyday car it doesn’t really matter what the tire tread design is is the road are dry. However, if the road is wet, slushy or snow covered, your tires will require a tread designs to make traction.

Use these tips to determine if your car is in need of new tires:

Check for Bulges, and Cracks
If you notice any cracks, gouges, cuts or grooves in the sidewall of your tires, or anything else that looks odd. Just take in right into your dealer or auto mechanic. If your tire deflates the sides begine to bulge. A good sign you have low tire pressure is a slow leak. However you notice rubber bulging. Take this as red flag, this tire has begun to fail and came blow out at any time. I had this happen in our front yard before. I am so thankful I was not driving. It was so loud it sounded like a gun went off.

Check the tread

The easiest way to do this, is by checking with a quarter. Just insert the quarter upside down into the tread of your tire. If the quarter doesn’t cover George Washington’s hairline, it means your tread is less than 4/32 of an inch deep, and it’s time to get a set of new tires.

Temperature
The pressure in your tire drops in very cold weather. In the Summer there can be excessive heat build up in the tire. So if your thinking of going on a long road trip during the hot summer months, get the tires checked, because the underinflated tire you missed, can generate more heat and wear out faster.

How old are those tires

It doesn’t matter the brand, how much you paid or how good you think your tires are, time causes wear and leaves it’s mark.  Tires become brittle with age. Over time the tire’s reinforcing cordscan will weaken. Even when the tread appears clearly intact. Many manufacturers will advise that they get replaced no later than six years. In states where the weather is very hot year round the ultraviolet rays of the hot sun could cause you to have to make this change sooner.

How does the car feel when driving

Take notice when the ride starts to feel a little rougher than usual. Feel for any vibrations while driving. If you have been noticing this, it can be a sign that it’s time to get new tires.

If you want to get the most mileage out of your new tires, be sure and check the pressure at least once a month when your tires are cold. Making sure to do this can prevent under inflated tires which can overheat. In turn causing your new tires wear prematurely.

Maybe not only are your tires shot, but also your car too. If you have been searching for a great car and tired of repairs. Well get rid of the old junk car and head on over to Westborn Chrysler Jeep and check out the new 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Coupe and take it on a test drive. This might just be your next car!

When it’s time to replace your tires, it’s good to do it in pairs or all four at a time. This will make for a safer ride, better performance and traction. However it’s always best to have a local auto shop for an expert opinion.
