Fair Trade Designs Review

Most recently I had the chance in reviewing three wonderful products from, FairTradeDesigns in return for my honest opinion. They carry a distinctive collection of home & personal accents. Fairly traded, handcrafted and sustainably produced. I really like the idea of fair trade, helping out other countries exponentially is a great thing.

The three products I received were, Twisted Rings silver-played brass earrings. The fair trade company behind this product is dedicated to preserving the cultural art forms of India by supporting the artisan communities who uphold these traditions. It reinvests all profits–after covering operating costs–back into these communities through micro-finance, health care, and educational programs.

Highly skilled silversmiths handcrafted this beautiful product. The artisans use metal-working techniques handed down rough the generations.

I adore these earrings. They are quite fashionable and the thought of wearing earrings that were handmade in exchange for a good life(technically) is beautiful! They don’t irritate my ears, they’re nicely cut and designed.

Next, the Kathmandu Journal. The wholesaler of this product has been working with Nepalese paper makers since 1995. Its objective was, and continues to be, supporting the Nepalese traditional craft industry using fair trade practices, therefore improving a family’s standard of living in the rural and urban areas.

This is a handy little journal that can fit nicely into your purse or computer case. It is made by Nepalese women from the sustainable pruning and trimming of the native lokta bush, so it’s entirely tree-free. Amazing! The paper inside is of fine texture, strong, and very durable. The cover is dyed with natural vegetable dyes and has a traditional stick and loop closure.

This little journal is even more cool knowing that it wasn’t made from a tree! I love the ‘Indy’ type design, and the closure is just the coolest thing. I like the way the paper looks, but I’m afraid to write in it, I don’t want to write on the great paper! Hahaha. I do plan on getting another journal, they are earth friendly, and I find them all very fascinating.

Lastly, the Spring Garden Messenger Bag. The group behind this bag was formed to increase economic opportunity for women in Cambodia and to support organizations that fight human trafficking in Southeast Asia.

This messenger bag is great for you if you are the on-the-go type. Made out of sleek yet durable cotton canvas, the small messenger bag makes a great companion for traveling, walking, or whenever you only want to carry the essentials.

It includes 4 zipper pockets, 2 Velcro pockets and 2 slots for writing utensils. And an adjustable strap. I like the fabric, the colors and design. The burgundy matched with the chocolate is a great combination. This bag has come in handy when I’m at the store picking up a couple things or just running some quick errands. When I only need, a notepad, money, a cell, and a few more necessary items. It is very durable and fashionable too!

I do highly recommend each product to anyone! They each have a little story behind them about who made them and what the product of them has to offer to the maker. It is quite interesting. I love all the things I got, and I m sure you will too, visit their site, www.FairTradeDesigns.com. And check out the rest of their handcrafted products!
