Is it Time for New Tires? Know the Signs

Tires eventually get old and worn down no matter how little you drive. You could be stranded if you are the victim of tire failure, but it could also be worse, leaving your car uncontrollable and end up in a possible accident. This is why it’s important to know when your tires are in bad shape so you can get new ones before something goes wrong.  With winter right around the corner this is the perfect time to have your tires checked.

Listed are a few ways to see warning signs that indicate you need new tires:

1.Too Much Vibration

With every car there will be a certain amount of vibration is just inevitable when driving. More so on bad roads. However if you start to notice more vibration than usual on the same routes you always drive there can be a number of causes, but maybe your tires are misaligned or need to be balanced, or other causes. But it could also be there is an issue or internal problem with the tire itself meaning you need to change it. When this happens it’s best to take it to the mechanic right away to have it checked out.

2.Bulges, and Cracks

Be sure to take notice of your tires, look often for cracks, gouges, cuts or grooves in the sidewall or anything else that looks off. If you notice any of these take it to your local auto mechanic to have it checked out. When tire deflate the sides will begin to bulge which is a sign you may have low tire pressure or even a slow leak. However if you notice rubber bulging. Take this as red flag! This means your tire has failed and could blow out at any moment. I had this happen in our front yard before. I am so thankful I was not driving. It was so loud it sounded like a gun went off.

3.Tire Tread

This is the number one reason most of us need to tires, because we have finally worn the tread down. If you have never checked the tread on your tires it’s pretty simple. Grab a quarter and insert the quarter upside down into the tread of your tire. If the quarter doesn’t cover George Washington’s hairline, it means your tread is less than 4/32 of an inch deep, and it’s time to get a set of new tires. That simple.

4.Old Tires

No matter how big the brand or how much you paid, over time our tires get warn down. Your tires will get brittle with age. Even if your tire tread clearly appears intact. Many manufacturers will advise that they get replaced no later than six years. In states where the weather is very hot year round the ultraviolet rays of the hot sun could cause you to have to make this change sooner.

If you want to get the most mileage out of your new tires, be sure and check the pressure at least once a month when your tires are cold. Making sure to do this can prevent under inflated tires which can overheat. In turn causing your new tires wear prematurely.

Maybe not only are your tires shot, but also your car too. With that being said if you have been searching for a great car and tired of repairs, head on over to Marburger Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram and take out the new New 2020 Ram 1500 BIG HORN CREW CAB 4X2 5’7 BOX in Shelby on a test drive. This might just be your next truck!

When it’s time to replace your tires, it’s good to do it in pairs or all four at a time. This will make for a safer ride, better performance and traction. However it’s always best to have a local auto shop for an expert opinion.
