Go deeper into the spectacular Land of Oz with Disney’s, “Oz The Great And Powerful.” Which debuted for in-home release on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital and On-Demand, June 11, 2013.
Disney was nice enough to send over this great movie for us to review in exchange for my honest opinion.
In this great film feature, Oscar Diggs who is played by the oh so very handsome, James Franco, is a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics. During a tornado storm he is hurled away from the dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, where he thinks he has hit the jackpot! Where fame and fortune are his for the taking, well that is, until he meets the three witches: Theodora who is played by the beautiful, Mila Kunis, Evanora who is played by Rachel Weisz, and Glinda, who is played by Michelle Williams.
Each witch isn’t very convinced that he is the true wizard who has come to save the people of Oz. unwillingly drawn into the problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oz (Oscar) must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts thought illusion, ingenuity and even a bit of wizardry, Oz transforms himself not only into a great wizard but into a better man as well.
I have always been a big fan of the classic: “Wizard of Oz” by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer ever since I was a kid. And hearing about this film, gave me more than a rush to see it. It seemed to be more of a twist to the whole changeable “story” of Oz. Having it be more modern, and the completely different approach to it, and it’s new characters, its great effects have just blown me away. As I watched the movie I even compared it to the “Wizard of Oz”. There were so many things that were the same. Yet so many that were different. I loved how the movie started out in a small boxed screen, and it was black and white. And of course the creators couldn’t forget the most famous tornado storm in Kansas that changed everything. The screen became bigger and color was added as Oz entered the Land of Oz. I was just as amazed as Oz was, as he floated through the forests, all it’s greatly added colors, animations and just so so wonderful.
As the movie continues there are so many twists and turns that come all together as the movie slowly ends. New characters are added that are just as essential as any character. I just can’t get over the fact that it is so different from other Wizard of Oz movies, yet it’s so similar. There may be different characters, but if you are a fan of the other Oz movie you’ll start connecting strings and understanding who represents who. I know it just isn’t about comparing the movie, but you really have to see it for yourself.
What really amazed me was that after I had watched the movie I started figuring out that this movie, Oz The Great And Powerful seemed to be more of the starting of the original Wonder Wizard of Oz movie. Because at the end of the movie you see that Oz is truly the Wizard of Oz that answers the people’s wishes. He doesn’t kill a certain someone which makes it possible that she comes back in the older movie to finish what she started. But that’s all I will say for now.
I get lost for words when I try to describe this movie without giving out great details and certain plot points. It is just wonderful, something the entire family will truly enjoy.
