You’ve heard of gluten-free right? But probably never really knew what it actually meant? Or maybe, you didn’t really understand what gluten is exactly? For the longest time it has crossed my mind but I just recently looked into it.
Gluten is a gluey type protein found in breads, desserts, wheats, oats, barley, and rye. It’s what makes the product ‘fluffy’ or puff up. Knowing this you would probably think, gluten is toxic to many of us, over time it slowly destroys your small intestine. Now, think back to Biology class, hahaha, our small intestine is responsible for transforming the food we eat into fuel, which if shot throughout our body for nourishment. Without the small intestine, many disorders can occur. For example, Irritable bowel syndrome, stress, thyroid problems, as well as autoimmune diseases like Arthritis. I am not a health professional, these are just some facts that I have looked into. If you are truly concerned, ask your doctor about it.
Now, you must be thinking, “Okay, gluten is pretty bad, but what are you getting at?” Udi’s Gluten-Free company is what I’m getting at! A company that produces nothing but gluten-free, breads, buns, bagels, muffins, cookies, granolas, and much more! The have been devoted since 1994 to create the best gluten-free food on the planet for their customers!
Thankfully, Udi’s sent over some wonderful products in exchange for my honest opinion. The products are: Millet-Chia Bread, White Sandwich Bread, Classic Hamburger Buns, Whole Grain Hamburger Buns, Classic Hotdog Buns, Blueberry Muffins, Double Vanilla Muffins, Soft & Chewy Snicker Doodle Cookies, Soft & Chewy Dark Chocolate Brownie Bites, Soft & Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies, Pizza Crust, Small Plain Tortillas, and Large Plain Tortillas.
Sounds like a lot, I know, but knowing my family, the products didn’t last long. Hahaha! It all sounded so good, I planned certain foods to make to incorporate each product I received. Of course I had to try the cookies and muffins first! And man, were those Snicker Doodles to die for! They were nice and soft and chewy so delicious! I hated the fact that I had to share. Me with the Chocolate Chip Cookies, my husband got jealous. Because they were better than his home-made chocolate chips cookies! And next, the Brownie Bites. When I read dark chocolate on the packaged I was skeptical, because I am not a big fan of dark chocolate, but these, these were too yummy! They were just the right little size to pop in my mouth and enjoy with a nice glass of cold milk! Now, onto the muffins, the Blueberry ones tasted great, no after taste, no crumbly-ness, just sweet blueberries! My daughter tried the Double Vanilla Muffin, she didn’t say anything while eating it. The suspense was killing me! Hahaha! Finally, she said, “Mmmm this is really good, I want another.” That concludes it! The desserts were yummy.
In some cases it is actually pretty hard to find gluten-free food that is good!
My husband was planning on cooking-out so we decided we could use the Hamburger Buns, and Hotdog Buns. To be honest, I wasn’t much into the texture of the buns. Both hamburger and hotdog ones. It seems kind of flakey or crumbly. I didn’t really like it that much. No biggy. The nest day I made a sandwich for lunch and used the White Sandwich Bread, it tasted like the buns. Crumbly , and I wasn’t much into it. My husband tried the Millet-Chia Bread, he said the same thing I did. The taste was pretty good though but the texture, not so much.
I had made little Quesadillas for a snack for my kid using the Plain Tortillas, waiting for their response on the taste. All they said is that is tasted like any other tortilla, it was good.
And lastly, the pizza crust, it had been a while since we had pizza so I had my younger son help me make homemade pizza with the given pizza crust. We added our choice of cheese, sauce and other pizza accessories. The pizza crust was hard, and ready to go. It wasn’t frozen or anything. Finally, it was ready, we cut a f slices and tried them. It was a bit different from what we are used to but it wasn’t bad, it was pretty tasty.
All in all I liked most of the products I reviewed. I do recommend Udi’s Gluten-Free foods to anyone, wanting a tastier side of a healthy life. Even thought I didn’t like all the products, doesn’t meant you won’t, don’t judge it till’ you’ve tasted it! Udi’s products are all natural without artificial flavors, colorings, preservatives or other synthetic additives.
