Everyone in my house always anticipates the arrival of the next big Tim Burton movie to come out. We’re all fans of at least one of his movies; Coraline, Beetle Juice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissor Hands and many more! Well, Frankenweenie is the next big thing!
We got the Frankenweenie 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack which included a Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray. DVD and Digital Copy that was released on Jan 8, 2013.
In this heartwarming, wonderful, stop motion movie a young boy, Victor suddenly loses his dog, Sparky. After seeing a demonstration in class Victor uses the power of science to bring his best pal back to life.
Trying his best to keep his living-dead dog a secret from the nosey neighbors, Victor leaves for school and Sparky gets out! One of Victor’s classmates notices Sparky and doesn’t believe what he sees.
Soon confronting Victor, the classmate figures out a gruesome truth telling others about it.
Victor is left to deal with unexpected events along with death defying creatures.
I personally loved the movie along with my youngest son and my daughter. This movie brought some tears to my eyes with comedy to make up for it. With it’s quirky characters, my personal favorite is Weird Girl and her cooky cat, Mr. Whiskers that can tell the future with symbols in his poo. Hilarious! As well as Edgar, the hunched backed creepy kid. With an overly long hand.
My favorite scene in the movie is at the end when Sparky saves Victor from a burning windmill. With all the towns people around who thought Sparky was a horrid monster has a change of heart and sees that Sparky is still the same loving dog as before.
The music they chose for the film really moved me. Some of the tones almost reminded me of Tim Burtun’s Edward Scissor Hands.
They all gather together and try to help bring Sparky back to life. But you’ll never know if it truly works until you’ve seen the movie yourself!
Starring voices of Emmy Award-winner Catherine O’Hara, Tony Award-winner Martin Short, Academy Award-winner Martin Landau, Charlie Tahan, Atticus Shaffer, Robert Capron, Conchata Ferrell and Golden Globe-winner Winona Ryder.
After watching the movie I watched the special features. And boy was there a lot to watch. It had an all new original short: “Captain Sparky vs The Flying Saucers. “Miniatures in Motion: Bringing ‘Frankenweenie’ To Life”. Where you could see film sets that took place in London. “Frankenweenie” Touring Exhibit. This one was my favorite because it showed all the little puppets, how they were made, along with how they built the sets from scratch. And every, itsy, bitsy piece of detail was made as well. From the silver ware and toasters to little books and flowers. Remarkable!
Also, there is a “Frankenweenie” Original Live Action Short made in 1984. If you watch the stop motion version then this one after, you can pick out the characters and the scenes. Although not everything happens according to plan. It is a short version, but in the end it sums everything up.
Concluding the special features it has a music video, “Pet Sematary” performed by the Plain White T’s. I have to say after listening to this song it gets stuck in my head! Haha.
As a result the whole movie, and all its great features were fantastic. I am never disappointed in Tim Burton’s work. I’m a big fan and it was a pleasure to review another great movie. This is a wonderful movie for the while family to enjoy!
The movie run time is 87 minutes and is rated PG.
Be to to grab this wonderful 19-page science activity guide!
